Tributes have been paid to a young woman who died in a crash

Rebecca Quail, 25, of Penrith, was killed on the A6, south of Shap, on Wednesday.

She was driving a Citroen car involved in a collision with a trailer carrying a mini digger at about 8.30am.

Miss Quail, known as Becca, was a teaching assistant at Sandgate School in Kendal, working with children who have special needs.

Staff there have described her as a "treasured" colleague who will be sadly missed.

People have sent her family their condolences via social media.

Writing on the News & Star's Facebook page Poppy Chynna Sant-Whitehead: "I'll never forget our college days. A lovely person inside and out. Heartbreaking sad and unfair. Rest in peace beautiful."

Martina Parker posted: "RIP Becca. Such a lovely lass taken too soon. Thoughts Go Out To Your Family."

Kelly Foskett wrote: "RIP Becca. I'm in shock. A lovely girl taken far too soon."

It is understood that Miss Quail had grown up in Penrith.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were on the scene but despite the best efforts of paramedics, Miss Quail died at the scene.

The trailer was being pulled by a Mercedes Sprinter van, which was heading north, prior to the collision. Her car was heading south.

An investigation into the cause of the tragedy continues.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened, and has yet to come forward, to contact Cumbria Police on 101 quoting incident number 33 of March 15.
