A 28-year-old former west Cumbrian woman died in her Leeds home after a house fire which killed two others.

Kelly Taylor-Hackett, who used to be known as Kelly Bowness, had lived locally at Galemire Farm, Cleator Moor, Bookwell in Egremont, and in Duke Street, Workington.

Her partner Joanne Marie Semple, 36, and an 18-year-old housemate, Stephen Fitzgerald, also lost their lives in the blaze.

Three pet Rottweilers also died during the incident.

Police have investigated the fire and were looking for witnesses to help gather evidence.

A file has now been passed to Wakefield’s coroner’s department and an inquest into the deaths has been opened and adjourned.

West Yorkshire Police said the bodies were found in the East End Park area of the city after officers were called shortly before midday on Sunday, March 27.

Police believe that the fire started in the living room of the house on the Friday night.

A spokesman for the force said the deaths are currently being treated as “unexplained”.

Emergency services discovered the bodies after being called to the house on the Sunday lunchtime.

The force said there appeared to have been a small fire at the property.

Acting Detective Inspector Mark Atkinson said: “Our inquiries are at a very early stage and we are currently trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.

“Initial indications are there has been a small fire at the premises.

Forensic post-mortems will be held to establish how the three people found inside the property have died.

“We believe the deaths are likely to have occurred in the early hours of Saturday,” added det insp Atkinson.”

Police reports suggest that there was no signs of violence and officers are understood to be working on the theory that the cause of death was smoke inhalation.
