A number of flood-hit properties owned by Carlisle City Council are expected to be reinstated in the coming months.

An update on phase two of the authority's asset reinstatement programme will be given to members of the resources overview and scrutiny panel during a meeting on April 13.

It states that work on council-owned properties on Warwick Road, the Sands Centre and Swifts golf course have all been completed and settled, while work to the Fire Station has also been completed.

A report prepared for the panel states that the reinstatement of Adriano's, at Rickergate, should be completed this month.

Meanwhile the reinstatement of Stoney Holme, the John Street properties, Shaddongate Resource Centre and Botcherby Community Centre should all be completed in May.

The city council is hoping to reinstate the Sheepmount - of which the final programme is still to be determined following the conclusion of insurance negotiations - by June this year.

The report adds: "Funding for the recovery of all these assets is the subject of ongoing work with our insurers."

Members of the panel will also be given an update on the reopening of the upper tennis courts at Bitts Park at Easter.

The report also states: "The lower courts remain out of action, however they were due to be resurfaced and redeveloped as part of the proposed canopy development.

"On that basis we have not progressed repair works as they will be unnecessary as and when the canopy project commences.

"Having had a protracted discussion with the Lawn Tennis Association we are now confidently moving forward to starting this project."
