CARLISLE’S fightback from the floods continues as one of the city centre’s biggest stores reopens today.

Sofa retailer DFS, just off Hardwicke Circus, will welcome back customers following an extensive renovation and repair project.

It was one of the many city stores that were deluged with water during December’s flooding in the wake of Storm Desmond.

DFS, along with nearby firms Wickes and the Turf Tavern pub, all confirmed last month that they would be reopening in the city but at that stage didn’t know when.

The store’s staff will be holding a special launch party to showcase their new-look shop, which will feature an extended bedroom and dining area.

Free chocolates and balloons for all visitors will be on offer during the day.

Lawrence McPake, store manager at DFS Carlisle, said: “We are thrilled at getting our store back to normal and ready to serve our many customers again.

“We’ve extended our bedroom and dining sections in store and increased the overall size of the store so we now have more products than ever before.

“We also have a very experienced team who are experts in their field and are able to guide customers through the entire process.”

DFS regional sales manager Derek Chalmers added: “Like many of our customers this has been a difficult time for our team.

“Getting back to normal and opening our doors to the community again is a welcome relief.

“Our team is raring to go so we hope to see old and new faces visit us over the coming weeks and months. We’re here to help where we can.”

He added: “We also have a team on hand who are able to deliver products immediately.”
