No one was injured in the fire at the property on the outskirts of the town but it took it was well alight.

Firefighters worked for almost four hours to extinguish the flames and make the scene safe.

Emergency services were called to the property at about 6.20pm on Tuesday with crews arriving from Wigton, Aspatria and Maryport.

The aerial platform and support pump from Carlisle East Fire Station were also required along with a water bowser and support pump from Penrith.

On arrival the crews found a fire involving the roof of the bungalow and used three hose reels to extinguish the flames.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check the property.
