A club’s fundraising work-out has gone global – with proceeds going to the Park family’s triplets.

Coaches at Crossfit No Ego pulled in support from fitness clubs all over the world, includes some as far afield as New Zealand, to take part in the fundraiser.

The Workington gym’s event featured athletes from all over west Cumbria, who all made donations, and the £329 raised will go Steven Park and baby daughters Poppie, Mollie and Evelyn, from Whitehaven, who tragically lost wife and mother Rachel just after Christmas.

The money raised and pledged by gyms around the world is still being calculated.

John Wilson, owner and head coach at Crossfit No Ego in Salterbeck, said: “We were all saddened to hear of the death of Rachel Park over the Christmas holiday, especially after the brilliant news of the Park triplets being finally allowed home after all three received life-saving treatment during their long stay in hospital.

“And so I said to the other coaches that we should do something.

“Usually for these sorts of fundraising events, a workout would be created and the members would do the workout and donate, then there might be a cake sale to raise a little more and the funds would be passed on to the cause or charity.

“But our coaches thought this deserved more, something bigger. So they got in touch with any and all of their contacts in the Crossfit world, other local gyms and those further afield.

“Social media also played a big part and as a result, gyms from as far afield as New Zealand pledged to do the workout and donate what they could.

“The workout itself was tough; even seasoned athletes from across the country found it hard going. But everybody that took part dug deep. If they felt they were going to quit, they remembered why they were doing it and carried on to the end.

“The oustanding response by the Crossfit community, local, national and international, is an amazing thing and something that Crossfit No Ego is happy to be a part of and I can’t thank those that took part enough.”
