A couple have taken their breast cancer awareness campaign to new heights.

For the past three years Julie and Stephen Shepherd have come up with ways to throw the illness into the spotlight.

They kick-started it off by using pink bale wrap to produce coloured silage bales in aid of Breast Cancer UK.

And last year the farmers, from Drigg, painted their blue tractor Fantasy pink and took it along to several agricultural shows.

This year's project has involved media imagery company Aerosnapper using a drone to capture Stephen "drawing" a huge breast cancer ribbon in one of his fields using the pink tractor and rowing-up machine.

Stephen admitted it was a nerve-wracking experience as he only had one chance of getting it right.

"I literally just went for it," he said. "It had to work because I couldn't undo what I had done and I was shocked when I saw how good it was.

"It was a bit nerve-wracking as everyone was standing and watching."

The couple, who also own the Shepherds Views Holidays campsite, say many of their guests tell them they booked their stay after reading about the campaign.

And people will often pull up at the farm, asking to look at the tractor.

"People think it's quite unusual what we're doing and are surprised, but think it's a great idea for a great cause," said Julie.

"It's a charity that's quite close to our hearts as Stephens's mum lost her battle with breast cancer 15 years ago."

It was Terry Wake, owner of company Aerosnappers, who came up with the idea.

Terry has taken many aerial shots of the farm and campsite for the couple's website.

"We dotted about a few ideas and I suggested they try and draw a ribbon in one of the fields.

"We thought about it and after about a week or so got back together and discussed how we were going to do it.

"We walked the route and then set up the camera on the tractor and the drone.

"It's turned out really well."

Terry, who works in partnership with Flimby-based Forth Engineering, said the company has been extremely supportive of the venture.
