An estate agent who swindled clients out of nearly £500,000 has been stripped of his assets, worth just £67,000.

Donald Scott, 62, of Low House Farm Cottage, Wigton, who was given five years' jail for fraud, spent most of the money he defrauded from his seven victims on satisfying court judgements, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

Judge Peter Hughes QC ordered him to hand over his cash within three months or face a further year in jail.

Prosecutor Kim Obrusik confirmed that Scott's fraud - between 2010 and 2015 - netted him £457,663.

He had been battling to keep his failing land and estate agency going when he systematically deceived his most trusting and vulnerable customers, conning two out of their life savings.

Investigators confirmed that the compensation from Scott's available remaining assets will give his victims only a fraction of the money they lost.

All of the £67,000 seized from Scott will go towards compensating his victims.
