A feast of exotic dishes will bring tastes from all over the world to Workington this weekend.

An international market will be held for the second year in Murray Road, with 24 stalls offering refreshments including gourmet sausages, Indian street food and sweet treats for revellers to enjoy, as well as craft stalls.

Entertainment on the main stage in Murray Road tomorrow and Sunday will include performances from The Dreamers and The Brian Rawson Band.

Murray the Magician will also perform at The Hub at 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm on each day and there will be a funfair in Murray Road.

The market, which is due to start today and run until Sunday, has been organised by Allerdale council and Groupe Geraud.

Councillor Mark Fryer, Allerdale council’s executive member for economic growth, said: “By supporting events like this we can contribute towards one of the council’s priorities to make our towns thriving and welcoming for visitors and residents, while also enhancing the local economy.”

Toni Magean, town centre manager for Allerdale council, said last year’s event had proved very successful, attracting about 40,000 people, and he hoped the market could become an annual fixture.

The event will run from 10am to 6pm each day, with Murray Road closed throughout.

Finkle Street will also be shut from the junction with Murray Road to Vinnie’s Bar, with Brow Top and the rest of Finkle Street temporarily made two-way to allow access for residents.

The Murray Road taxi rank will be relocated to outside the Carnegie Theatre in Finkle Street.
