A drug addict has been jailed by a judge after she committed two crimes while subject to a suspended prison term.

Karly Anne Fisher, 25, was punished at Carlisle Crown Court last year having admitted a charge of possessing heroin with intent to supply.

She was given a 21-month prison sentence, which was suspended for two years.

But Fisher, of Wilson Street, Workington, was brought back to court after she went on to commit two further offences.

Prosecutor Tim Evans said police arrested Fisher in late November on suspicion of theft.

“They found a number of (bank) cards in her purse which didn’t seem to bear her name,” said Mr Evans.

The owner of one confirmed it had been stolen. Fisher was later seen on CCTV footage in possession of that card at a shop. When interviewed, Fisher claimed the card had been left at a house party and insisted that she was planning to return it to the owner.

She didn’t know the number and hadn’t used it.

But the court heard she then got into trouble again by shoplifting at Workington’s Debenhams store in January.

A bottle of £75 aftershave was found to have been stolen.

She pleaded guilty to theft and handling stolen goods.

Brendan Burke, defending, said Fisher’s problem had been a “relapse into heroin misuse”.

Having been remanded into custody, she had been given medication.

“She hopes she can continue with this prescription she is on in prison from her mother’s house and try to move on from there,” said Mr Burke.

But Judge Barbara Forrester heard that Fisher’s pledge to give up drugs had been questioned by experts.

In addition, she had attended some appointments while “under the influence” and failed to turn up at others for drugs testing.

As a result, Judge Forrester told Fisher she had “no alternative” but to send her straight to prison.

Ten months of the suspended sentence were immediately activated.

A further month was added, consecutively, for the new offences.
