A popular pub is toasting yet more success by landing a top title for the third year in a row.

The Drovers Rest at Monkhill, near Carlisle, has been named pub of the year by the Campaign for Real Ale’s Solway branch.

It is an accolade which continues an impressive run of form that has seen owners Linda and Bill Robinson, their daughter Sarah and son-in-law Sandy earn themselves an award every year since they took it on in 2014.

And they are thrilled to have been recognised once again.

Linda, 56, said: “It amazes me that we’ve done it.

“I have to be honest, we couldn’t believe it the first year. We thought it would be great if we could get local pub of the year and then when we went on to win pub of the county and then region we were all dumbstruck by it really.”

Commenting on the Drovers Rest’s success, Richard Weir, of the Camra branch, said: “It shows how much hard work they have put into a pub that was really struggling and was open and shut quite a bit before they took over.

“It’s a highly-deserved award and of course the beer quality, which is paramount to us, is always exceptional.”
