A housing developer has backtracked on plans to scrap a play area on a housing estate.

Persimmon Homes built the 92-home Forgehill Park, off Mossbay Road, Workington and as part of the planning conditions it agreed to build a play area.

But the developer did not comply with the condition and in August it applied to Allerdale council to remove it.

The move sparked opposition by the residents and the council said at the time that enforcement action could be taken over the breach.

Now Persimmon Homes has told Allerdale council it is looking at a new plan for a play area.

Gordon Henry, who lives on the development, said: “I am really pleased that Persimmon has withdrawn its planning application to remove the requirement to build a play area on Forgehill Park.

“We look forward to sitting down as soon as possible with representatives of Persimmon, Allerdale council and any other organisations to create the safe, quality play facilities for children living on Forgehill Park that should have been created here two years ago.”

An Allerdale council spokesman said Persimmon was expected to present a new plan soon.

A spokesman for the developer said: “We have withdrawn the planning application for the play area at Forgehill Park.

"We are working closely with the council to try to meet the requirements of the planning approval and hope to have a revised scheme shortly.”
