As Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn prepares to visit Cumbria, the county has pulled out all the stops - even naming a village after him.

Cunning pranksters blue-tacked the letter 'n' at the end of one of the signs leading into the village of Great Corby... turning it into the village of Great Corbyn.

Elsie Martlew, chairman of the Carlisle Labour Party, joked: "Who said politics has to be serious?

"And, what a way to welcome Jeremy Corbyn to the county."

In fact, the party is so taken by the sign, they have had it reproduced on t-shirts which they will be proudly wearing at this evening's rally.

Mr Corbyn is currently touring Conservative hot spots which he hopes to reclaim at the next General Election.

He had been expected to visit Whitehaven today, however, plans have not gone ahead.

Instead he will visiting Keswick, which is in the Copeland constituency.

He is set to speak to people about local issues, as well as meeting members of Copeland's Labour Party in Cleator Moor.

The Labour party saw a major defeat in Copeland as Trudy Harrison, for Conservatives, won the parliamentary seat in the fiercely-fought by-election in February. She went on to win the seat in the General Election in June.

Gillian Troughton, secretary of Copeland's Labour party, said it will provide a focal point to "start the fight back".

She said: "I'm pleased that he's coming to understand the constituency and meet people living and working here."

Mr Corbynwill then travel to visit Carlisle this evening, where he will be hosting a public rally.

He will address crowds between 7pm and 8pm in Carlisle, from the pedestrianised area in Market Cross.

The Labour party lost the parliamentary seat in Carlisle in 2010.

Locally, Labour have made it their goal to take back the Carlisle constituency which currently has Tory MP John Stevenson.
