The bookies have Cumbrian broadcaster India Willoughby as odds on favourite to be the first to be evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house.

India, the country's first transgender newsreader, is facing the public vote alongside Love Island star Jonny Mitchell.

They will find out who goes when the results of the first vote are revealed by Big Brother presenter Emma Willis in tonight's live episode of the Channel 5 reality show.

Meanwhile bookmakers are predicting India, who transitioned fully two years ago, will be kicked out - echoing the large number of nominations she received from her fellow housemates earlier this week.

Traders at Ladbrokes and Coral have India as odds-on at 1/5 to go, with Jonny Mitchell out at 7/2.

Meanwhile Paddy Power has India odds-on at 1/7 and Jonny at 4/1.

In comparison, Shane J and his drag alter-ego Courtney are proving a favourite with viewers and bookmakers.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "India’s paying the price for her antics and it’s tough to see her surviving the first eviction. Courtney, on the other hand, can do no wrong and it’s only a matter of time before she goes odds-on for glory."

Leading media figure John Myers, who also became a household name on Border TV, believes despite the backlash against India she will remain in the house.

"I think she will stay in," he said. "People love a villain."

His view is echoed by Sarah Hemingway, who said on Facebook: "Get Jonny out! Not a fan of India but she has more to give than Jonny, he is boring."

Housemate India, 52, has been involved in several rows in the Big Brother House.

Viewers saw her getting upset when another housemate had a drag makeover and storming off when US singer Ginuwine said he would not date a transgender person.

There are also signs of a rift with former Conservative politician Ann Widdecombe, following an early row over who should sleep in which bed.

Previously known as Jonathan, India, worked for ITV Border's Lookaround news show before transforming her life after undergoing gender reassignment surgery.

It was as she read a bulletin for Lookaround in 2010 that India finally realised she could not continue living a lie – as a woman born into a man's body.

India has spoken openly about her transition.

Recalling that moment, she said: "I caught sight of my reflection in a camera lens – and saw myself , well turned-out, in a sharp suit, and looking confident and I thought: 'This is terrible. This is what people see and it's not the real me."

After taking a PR job in Newcastle, she began a double life: living as India during the week but becoming Jonanthan again in Carlisle at weekends as she returned to the city to see her son.

That continued for five years – until India's decision to have gender reassignment surgery in 2015 marked the final step in her transition.

"It reached the stage where I was about to go in for surgery and I had to tell my family," said India. "It wasn't an easy thing to do, but they were great. I'd been able to live two parallel lives but you can't do that indefinitely."

After the transition India made her next big decision: to go public.

Since then she has continued her work with ITV's local news programmes in the region, been a newsreader on Channel 5 and appeared on Loose Women and Come Dine with Me.
