A young mum who repeatedly stabbed a teenager after putting a pillow over his head will be sentenced next month.

Zoe Adams, 19, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court last month, and admitted unlawfully and maliciously wounding the 17-year-old with intent to do him grievous bodily harm. She was originally charged with attempted murder.

But Adams admitted the less serious offence.

Her admission came after she attacked the youth at an address in Wigton, on July 29, when she stabbed him, leaving him with five wounds.

Adams, of Brindlefield, Wigton, was told she faces a "significant" sentence.

She was due to be sentenced today but the sentencing was adjourned after Judge James Adkin concluded he needed more detailed background information - including a psychiatric report on the defendant.

She will be sentenced at the crown court on February 16.

In the meantime, the judge ruled that she must remain in custody.
