A mountain rescue team spent four-and-a-half hours bringing a man to safety who'd fallen while out walking with his family.
Cockermouth's rescue team were called out about 1pm yesterday to attend to the man, 60, who injured his ankle during the fall.
The incident happened in the area of Wandope, high above Buttermere village.
He was treated at the scene by a team doctor and team members before being stretchered to a waiting ambulance in Buttermere.
From there he was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
The rescue involved 17 members and took more than four-and-a-half hours.
Deputy team leader Chris Cookson said: “This was one of the longest evacuations we’ve had to undertake for a while but, with a good team effort, was straightforward."
