Cumbrian Community Gospel Choir is gearing up for its second concert - and it's promising it will be bigger and better than before.

Following the success of its debut event at St Peter's Church in Kells, Whitehaven, in May, the choir hope to pack out St John's Church in Workington on October 21 for their second public appearance.

And they are keen to involve everyone in what is billed as an evening of worship, encouraging everyone who wants to to join in rather than simply listening to the music.

The event, called Spirit of Revival, is free to attend and will feature a selection of worship songs cutting across most musical styles, with something to please younger and older generations alike.

The programme includes hymns such as How Great Thou Art and Because He Lives, along with William Murphy's Arise, Everlasting God for those who like the gospel groove and Hillsong's What A Beautiful Name for more contemporary worshippers. Organisers are even promising a bit of jazz to add to the mix.

The choir was formed in October by Nosa Ehigie of Egremont.

Originally from Nigeria, Nosa has been singing in gospel choirs since his teenage years and led choirs in his home church there and in Aberdeen, where he subsequently lived.

When he moved to West Cumbria a year ago to work, the engineer decided to join a gospel group. Finding that there wasn’t one, he set about forming his own.

It now has grown, with more members joining since the initial concert, and the singers are looking forward to another evening performing with guest musicians from outside Cumbria.

Nosa said: "It is going to be great time in God's presence, that I know for sure, so I would like to encourage people to come along so that we can bless the Lord as one voice."

Organisers urge anyone who is planning to attend to register online, if possible, at www.eventbrite.com to help with planning.
