A couple will be sentenced next month after admitting child cruelty charges.
The man and woman, both aged in their forties, each faced two allegations when they appeared at Carlisle Crown Court.
They admitted two counts of cruelty to a person aged under 16. This states that, having responsibility for two children, they wilfully ill-treated or neglected the youngsters in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering or injury to health.
Judge Barbara Forrester agreed to adjourn the case, and asked for the preparation of pre-sentence reports to provide more information about the defendants.
The man and woman, who can't be named to protect the identities of the children but were from the Workington area, were remanded on conditional bail.
They are due to be sentenced at the crown court on September 14.
