A Cumbrian beauty queen is hoping to get youngsters in the party spirit as part of a charity fundraiser.

Hannah Bradley, who currently holds the title of Miss Teen Cumbria, is bidding to be crowned Miss Teen Great Britain. As part of the competition, the 19-year-old, who lives in Penrith, is required to organise fundraising events to support Together For Short Lives - a charity which supports children with life-threatening or life-shortening conditions.

Hannah, who took part in the Race For Life earlier this month, is planning to hold a children's disco at Penrith's Castletown Community Centre on August 12. "There's not a lot going on for children so I thought I'd put something on where they could all get together and have a bit of fun," she told the News & Star.

Hannah hopes that between 25 and 40 children will attend the event, which is taking place between 6pm and 8pm. "The community centre holds 50 people and so to have anywhere between those numbers would be great," she said. "Entry is £4.50 and that includes a snack and a drink, but we'll have more for sale separately as well. If we can raise around £200, I'll be really happy."

As well as music, children will also be able to take part in fun games. "We're going to have a guess the name of the teddy competition," Hannah said. "It's 50p for a guess and the child that picks the best name wins the teddy. We're also having a 'guess how many sweets are in the jar' competition as well."

Hannah says that she hopes people in and around Penrith will head down to the event to support what she believes is a worthwhile cause. "The good thing about Together For Short Lives is that the money raised stays in the local area," she added. "So everything we raise should be staying to help children and their families in Cumbria, rather than going to a big pot elsewhere."
