Cumbria is getting a SECOND Race for Life, as Cancer Research reveals a castle will also play host to the women-only event.

Until now the popular fundraiser has only been held in Carlisle, with women travelling from all over the county to take part in the event.

Held in Bitts Park, it offers the traditional 5k and 10k events, as well as the more recent introduction in 2016 of the 5k Pretty Muddy inflatable obstacle course.

Cancer Research has now revealed all three events will also be held at Lowther Castle, near Penrith.

Laura Taylor, Cancer Research UK’s Penrith event manager, said: “We can’t wait to bring Race for Life to Lowther Castle for the very first time.

“For those looking to make a resolution to remember this January, signing up to Pretty Muddy, 5k or 10k offers the perfect solution.

"That’s because by taking part and raising money, participants can make a real difference in the fight against cancer by helping to fund crucial research.

"By limbering up and mucking in, local women will be uniting against a disease that affects us all in some way.”

Laura added: “Pretty Muddy has the same fun and inclusive atmosphere of our much loved 5k and 10k events - but with added mud, thrills and spills.

"Race for Life events are not competitive and women can complete the course at their own pace.

"It’s the perfect challenge for those looking to kick-start their new year and get more active in 2018.”

The Penrith Pretty Muddy will take place on Saturday, June 9, with the 5k and 10k events on Sunday, June 10.

The Carlisle Pretty Muddy takes place a month later, on the weekend of July 14/15.

Anyone who signs up before the end of January can get a 30 per cent discount.
