Cumbria is set to go baaaa-rmy for wool as a festival celebrating nature's finest fibres takes place from tomorrow.

Wool enthusiasts will travel to Cockermouth for the event, which was originally held in 2005.

It features all aspects of wool production and use, from rare breed animals and a raw fleece sale, through tops, yarn and craft equipment to what are labelled some of the best wool and textile craft creations in the country.

Visitors have opportunities to find out more during demonstrations by stallholders and at talks in the main ring at Mitchell's Lakeland Livestock Centre.

Organiser Jean Wildish said: "Woolfest continues to be as popular as ever.

"Applications have easily exceeded the space available and we’re pleased to be welcoming more than 20 new stallholders as well as designers and makers who’ve been regulars at Woolfest for 13 years."

The small ring will be home to an exhibition that has grown out of a European project.

Shepherd-Inspired fashion includes work from Germany, Romania, Slovakia and Cyprus and models from these countries and the UK will be taking part in a fashion show at the event.

Organisers say the animals are often a highlight for visitors, with a rare breeds parade in the main ring.

For the second year, all three native Cumbrian hill breeds will be present.

The event takes place tomorrow and Saturday, from 10am.

Entry is £10 per day or £15 for a two-day ticket, with free entry for accompanied children and free parking.
