Police have passed details of a man who died after falling 650ft from a Lake District mountain to the coroner.
The man fell from Helvellyn's Striding Edge on Sunday.
A police spokesman said: "We were called to a report of a man falling from Striding Edge.
"The man was a 53-year-old from Staffordshire."
He was initially flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue team leader Mike Blakey, who attended the scene, said: "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the man who tragically lost his life after falling over 200m from Striding Edge on Sunday.
"This particularly sad rescue has touched the hearts of all concerned.
"The family was very well equipped and this was simply a tragic accident."
