Coronation Street actors and film crews will work through the night to shoot upcoming scenes on Whitehaven's harbourside.

After filming onboard a boat in the harbour on Tuesday, the popular soap will return on Wednesday night to continue villain Pat Phelan's dramatic storyline.

The show is expected to be shot around the town's piers and lighthouse, with filming possibly going on until as late as 4am.

Crews will light up the harbourside to get shots of Weatherfield villain Phelan, played by Connor McIntyre, and his wife Eileen, portrayed by Sue Cleaver.

Filming for Corrie is also expected to take place through the night on Thursday.

An ITV spokesman said: "We searched for many months to find the right location for this important filming. Whitehaven proved to be perfect for what the director required and everyone was hugely helpful in making the planning and organisation of filming run smoothly.

"The marina and harbour provided us with the perfect backdrop to a hugely dramatic development in the Pat Phelan plot line."

Excitement has spread through Whitehaven since the show came to town. Crowds gathered on the harbourside on Tuesday to watch filming get started on the boat.

The episodes are expected to air at the end of March.
