Bakers have been out in force to help raise cash for Macmillian Cancer Support.

Tasty treats were on offer at coffee mornings across Copeland in support of the organisation.

The community packed into Seascale Library for a fundraising coffee this morning.

Sue Martin, library assistant, said: "We had cakes on offer and a raffle. It was well attended."

She said people were very happy to be involved.

A coffee morning was held at Kells Library, yesterday, which featured cakes, drinks and cake bingo. Organisers are still totalling up the final amount, but expect it to be about £160.

The fundraiser was led by Anne Steele and Tanya Daniel, community service officers for the library and archive service in Copeland.

Anne said: "There was a really good atmosphere. It was a really lovely morning."

The Rotary Club of Whitehaven hosted a coffee morning at Florence Arts Centre and raised £620 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Anthony Payne, chairman of the club’s community and vocational committee, said: "Because of its global reach, the Rotary movement is ideally placed to assist in every sort of service to the community.

"For example, over the last decades on the elimination of polio, recently generously supported by Bill Gates, and also more recently in the news, the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

"Rotary also works closer to home, providing small grants for example to young people trying to achieve a personal goal in the context of their broader education, and to local organisations wishing to work for the good of their communities."

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer.

Last year alone it raised £29.5m and this year it is aiming to raise even more.
