A winter ball will be held in honour of a little West Cumbrian superhero on Saturday.

The ball, at Hundith Hill, Cockermouth, will raise money for Jack's Journey.

The family of Jack Gibson, two who have set up a charity, Jack's Journey, will hold the ball as a winter treat and fundraiser for the charity, which has so helped 12 parents across the area and will soon help many more.

Jack was diagnosed with cancer in April last year.

While they were in hospital in Newcastle with Jack they saw a notice about the Sick Children's Charity and decided to hold a cake sale when they got home.

They went on to launch their own charity to help the families of other ill children and have so far raised around £25,000.

Sam said half of all money raised is going towards a caravan.

She said: "We want somewhere that families who have gone through what we have would be able to take a break that would not cost them. That is what the caravan is for."

She said she hoped it would be bought and ready next year but, if not, it would be in place by Easter 2019.

The charity has also given donations to 12 families to help them with travelling and other costs associated with treatment or just to give them a chance to do something special.

Jack's Journey has also donated 10 bags to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

"The bags will provide the sort of essentials we found we needed for those first few days after Jack was admitted. Each one includes a £30 voucher for Tesco, which is the nearest supermarket, plus other bits and pieces."

Sam said the ball would raise more funds, give people a fun night out and celebrate Jack's continuing progress.

She added: "He is in remission now. He will remain on chemotherapy until June 2019 and is still on antibiotics and other medication.

"He takes his medicine orally now. We don't have to feed it through a nose tube anymore. He is great at taking it. He puts it in his mouth and demands that we look at him. I think he likes the attention."

Tickets for the ball at £45 each or £40 each for a table of eight.

The ticket price includes a three-course meal, a welcoming drink and a lot of entertainment and dancing.

"We have a good band and a few surprises."
