People are being given another chance to reduce their household energy bills in the latest round of the Big Allerdale Switch.

Allerdale council has again partnered with collective energy switching firm iChoosr to give people the chance to change gas and electricity suppliers and save cash.

Deals will be on offer for customers on dual fuel agreements, separate supplier contracts or pre-payment meters.

Householders can register their interest online for free, and the results will be announced following an auction on October 9.

During the most recent auction held in June, householders in the borough saved an average of £173.

It is simple to sign up and residents are under no obligation to switch suppliers.

Councillor Carni McCarron-Holmes, the council's executive member responsible for housing, health and wellbeing, said: "Many people have seen some fantastic savings from the Big Allerdale Switch, which they would not have been able to access without signing up.

"I am delighted that the initiative has made a welcome return, as it contributes towards the council’s priority of tackling inequality and fuel poverty.

"We run the scheme throughout the year to reach all residents whose contracts are up for renewal at different times, so everyone can benefit from the savings that may be on offer. Anyone can register, but I would particularly encourage those who are currently on a standard tariff to sign up as they may not be getting the best deal."

The scheme is part of the Big Community Switch, which is operated by iChoosr, an independent company with experience in collective switching schemes.

It works by setting up a reverse auction and inviting energy suppliers to offer their cheapest deals for dual fuel, separate supplier contracts or pre-payment meters.

The deadline to register is October 8.
