THREE train passengers who tried to avoid paying for fares must pay more than £2,000.

Yasmine Cowx, 19, of Sewell Road, Currock, Carlisle, must pay a total of £641.90 for dodging a £7.90 train fare when travelling between Haltwhistle and Carlisle on August 17 last year.

Holly Lamb, 20, of Ramsey Drive, Parton, Whitehaven, must pay £809.40 for travelling without a ticket on two journeys between Parton and Carlisle and Corkickle and Carlisle last August. The two tickets would have cost £25.40.

Janette Martin, 43, of Moor Crescent, Longtown, must pay £649.80 for not buying a £15.80 ticket when travelling between Carlisle and Newcastle on Tuesday, September 1, last year.

All cases were heard by North Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Carlisle.
