A MAN who admits wounding a woman was told by a judge he must "expect a custodial sentence".

John Thomas Allan, 33, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today.

He admitted wounding Kay Irving with intent to do her grievous bodily harm.

This relates to an incident in the Belah area of the city between April 7 and 10.

The court heard Allan had put forward a basis for his guilty plea.

Judge Peter Davies adjourned the case until June 15. Allan, of Millholme Avenue, Currock, Carlisle, is due to be sentenced on that date.

He was remanded in custody, and Judge Davies told him: "Of course, you must expect a custodial sentence."
