A fraudster has been jailed for six months after flouting a court order he received for faking flood work invoices.

Jack Bulman, 26, conned Eden Golf Club out of almost £6,500 in the devastating aftermath of Storm Desmond.

Initially Bulman carried out legitimate rebuilding and improvement work at the Crosby-on-Eden club.

But over a three-month period he forged a signature and submitted a dozen bogus invoices for duties he had not done.

When his £6,408 scam came to light, Bulman was charged with fraud by false representation. He admitted the crime and was given a six-month prison term which a judge suspended for two years at Carlisle Crown Court. He also had to carry out 150 hours’ unpaid work within 12 months.

But having completely failed to tackle the community service, he was brought back to the crown court. He accepted flouting the judge’s order by failing to attend two probation service appointments, in October and November.

Bulman, of Raffles Avenue, Carlisle, also missed scheduled appointments and failed to keep in touch with the probation service.

Sarah Magill, defending, said the fraud had been committed after Bulman fell into debt. He suffered from severe psychosis and depression.
