CARLISLE is to lose another of its high street retailers.

Clothing store Fat Face is shutting its Scotch Street store later this month with the loss of seven jobs.

The store, which sells clothing for men and women, opened in the city in 2005.

A spokeswoman for the store said: "We are constantly reviewing our store portfolio in line with our business objectives and, as such, we open, refit and sometimes close FatFace stores.

"The Carlisle store will close on July 21.

"We are currently in a consultation period.

"At this stage there are seven jobs at risk.

"We are aiming to deploy crew from Carlisle to other stores."

The closest store to Carlisle is on Main Street in Keswick.

The firm also has branches in Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere.

News of the store's closure comes on the back of the announcement that House of Fraser, on English Street, is to shut its branch early next year.

The store, which used to be called Binns, will close with the loss of about 150 jobs and see a number of brands leave the city.

It is part of a national closure programme which will see 31 House of Fraser stores leaving towns and cities across the country.

Meanwhile, fashion and home retailer Joules has opened its new store on English Street selling clothing for women, men and children as well as homeware.
And high end chocolate retailer - Hotel Chocolat - has opened its first branch in the city, next door to Joules, selling a range of confectionery.

This shop also has a cafe.
