A toddler who has been living with a rare disorder has undergone a life-saving bone marrow transplant – and must now live “in a bubble” for a month.

Three-year-old Aaron Jayden Storey, of Buchanan Road, Currock, Carlisle, suffers from a blood condition called aplastic anaemia.

He is now confined to a room at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary – with only his parents and other close relatives allowed to visit him.

His mum Justine Wilson and dad Aaron Storey have been at his bedside throughout.

Justine said: “He had an intensive course of chemotherapy before the bone marrow transplant and his hair is just starting to fall out now.

“He had the transplant a week ago and he is tired. He is up and down.”

Aaron Jayden Storey Brave Aaron, who used to attend Stepping Stones Nursery in Denton Holme, has to stay in his room for the next three to four weeks to allow his immune system to build up and to avoid infection.

Justine said: “We can’t touch his face but we can give him a cuddle.

“It’s hard keeping him entertained all the time in the room.

“He plays with his toys and watches tv but he gets a bit twiney sometimes because of the tiredness.

“They might have to put a line in to feed him as he isn’t eating so well at the moment.”

Justine first noticed something was wrong with Aaron in December last year when she spotted a bruise on his hip.

Justine said: “He hadn’t banged into anything so I had no idea where it had come from.

“The bruise was purple and lumpy so I took him to casualty and they carried out tests.”

The youngster’s nana, Chel Green Hicks, 49, of Oaklands Drive, Currock, Carlisle, has been over to Newcastle to visit him.

She said Aaron has amazed the medical staff at how well he is handling it. She is fundraising to raise cash for the Aplastic Anaemia Trust.

Chel, who calls Aaron her “brave little soldier”, has raised more than £500 so far.

She is holding a raffle with various prizes. Tickets are £1 for a strip.
