Pandora seems to be the go-to gift for people at Christmas, with the jewellery brand popping up in homes all over the country come Christmas Day.

Last weekend was no different - the store in Carlisle recording remarkable sales on the week of Black Friday.

A staggering 219 transactions went through the till on Black Friday, in their store in The Lanes.

Interestingly though, the store sold more on the Saturday, with 298 transactions on that day.

Store Manager, Vicky Cumming believes the reason for that is simple.

She said: "Some people take the day off for Black Friday, but there are still not as many off as on the Saturday."

Also, last week the store was offering a complimentary limited edition bangle to customers who spent more than £99 in store.

During the four days the offer was running, the store gave out 440 of those bangles to customers.

Carlisle's Pandora store is actually down so far this Christmas, when compared with the same period last year.

However, Vicky believes this is because of the addition of new stores in Cumbria in recent years.

She said: "As a store we are down, but Cumbria as a whole is doing really well."

"Now we've got stores in Workington, Kendal and Windermere - we've got five stores in Cumbria.

"People used to travel to Carlisle for Pandora."

Despite the challenges that High Street retailers face, with the prospect of Brexit, inflation and falling wages, Ms Cumming is still positive about the future of retail.

She said: "People are still spending money, especially at Christmas.

"People have always got presents to buy."
