A police officer who has fought cancer twice is planning a number of events to raise money for two charities.

PC Debbie Hall, 47, is helping arrange two charity events with money raised going to Cancer Research UK and Eden Valley Hospice.

Debbie, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2002 and 2015 and is continuing to receive treatment at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, has been a police officer for more than 13 years.

The two events that Debbie is organising are:

* A charity race night on March 3 at Harraby Catholic Club in Carlisle.

The event starts at 7pm, with the first race starting at 8pm.

* The Let’s Make a Difference Charity Ball, which is being held on July 1 at the Shepherds Inn, Carlisle.

Doors open at 7pm for an evening of entertainment, including a Gary Barlow tribute act.

The charity race night is being organised by Debbie’s friend Lyndsey Nugent who works for Riverside.

Debbie said: "Anyone who is looking for a great night full of entertainment is welcome to attend - and all proceeds will be going to great causes which are close to my heart.

"It is important that people continue to support charities that help those who are diagnosed with cancer or those looking to invest further money into research.

"Having lost my mother to cancer in 2007 and my own battles, I know first-hand how crucial money donated and raised can be for local services.

"It’s thanks to research that I’m here today."

She said the majority of people would have been hit by cancer, whether was themselves or a loved one.

"Being diagnosed with cancer is completely shocking and very upsetting," she said.

"I received excellent treatment and will carry on fighting no matter what because I am determined to not to let cancer win.”
