This weekend mothers and daughters are being urged to unite and sign up to take part in Cumbria's 2017 Race for Life.

Cancer Research UK is calling on female family members to mark Mothering Sunday by joining forces in the fight against the disease.

The charity is inviting women and girls of all ages, shapes and sizes to select their event and pledge to take part on either Saturday June 17 or Sunday June 18.

Its popular Pretty Muddy event is returning to Bitts Park in Carlisle - a fun 5K inflatable course - on June 17.

The following day the park will welcome a new pink army when it is the turn of the charity's traditional 5K and 10K events that participants can choose to run or walk.

Katie Palmer, Cancer Research UK’s Carlisle event manager, said: "We are urging mums and daughters in Carlisle to make this Mother’s Day extra special by signing up to Race for Life.

"It’s the perfect opportunity to spend quality time together, create precious memories and join like-minded women determined to beat cancer sooner."

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy, marathon and hiking events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding life-saving research.
