A driver was taken to hospital following a crash between a car and a van.
The crash, on the A596 at Lillyhall, near Workington, closed off the road for a number of hours.
Police received a call about the incident at 6.40am. It did not reopen until about 10.30am.
It involved two vehicles - a white Mercedes Sprinter van being driven by a 48-year-old man from Maryport and a white BMW driven being by a 50-year-old man from Workington.
Paramedics and fire crews were also called.
A police spokeswoman said: "The driver of the BMW was taken to West Cumberland Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening."
Firefighters attended the scene and released two casualties from the vehicles and handed them over to the ambulance service.
