There was double delight for a brother and sister as they passed their driving tests – at the same time on the same day.

Harry Finney, 19 and 17-year-old Molly, booked their exam places separately as they each sought to throw away their “L” plates at the first attempt.

And the teens, from Penrith, were then stunned to learn that their morning time slots matched exactly.

Harry said of the two booked tests: “We just told each other and it was the same date and time. We couldn’t believe it.

“It put more pressure on me, that my little sister might have passed and I wouldn’t.”

While Harry was taught by Kevan Taylor, of Bolton, near Appleby, Molly’s lessons came courtesy of her 43-year-old father, Stephen.

Stephen was a driving instructor for nine years after ending a professional football career which included spells at Carlisle United, Manchester City, Preston and Swindon Town.

Both of their tests were held in Kendal on Wednesday.

“I was pretty nervous,” Molly admitted. “Harry said he was pretty nervous because he didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t want one of us to pass and one of us to fail.”

Molly completed an almost perfect test first and then, 10 minutes later, Harry returned and gave his similarly successful sister the thumbs up.

“It was amazing. We are both happy for each other,” said Molly, who drives a Volkswagen Beetle.

Harry, who now intends to acquire his own vehicle, added: “I was buzzing.”

Stephen said he and his wife, Debbie, were very “proud” – and looking toward to a twin taxi service on their own doorstep.

“That’s the bonus, absolutely,” he stated. “Instead of carting Molly around to horse riding and Harry around to football we will get a bit of a break now.”

Molly works at Pamela’s hairdressers, Penrith and attends Newton Rigg College. Harry works at Penrith’s Booths supermarket.
