A brewery which was devastated in the December floods is looking forward to welcoming visitors again.

Jennings Brewery was under seven feet of water in places during the floods.

Weeks later, and following a major clean-up operation, the brewing section was up and running once more.

But it has taken seven months to get the shop, offices and tours open again. They will launch on Monday (July 18) .

Sarah Graves, of Jennings, said: “Everything was ripped out, back to the walls. It all had to be disposed of. It’s been a huge operation and everyone has worked so hard but we are looking forward to opening again.

“We are wanting to run more group and bespoke tours. There is also lots of new merchandise in the shop.

“We are also going to have a big boardroom which sits more than 20 and is available to hire.”

The riverside brewery, which has been making beer since 1828 and employs 30 people, was badly damaged in the floods.

Head brewer Jeremy Pettman said: “It looked like everything had gone through a washing machine.

“It was a complete mess and quite soul destroying to see all the work that had gone into the run up to Christmas in ruins. Santa’s grotto and all the decorations were wrecked.

“It looked like a tsunami had gone through the downstairs offices. All the computer equipment and files were scattered everywhere.

“Cleaning up all the silt was a long process. It was everywhere and seemed a lot thicker and stickier than the last time.”

Following the 2009 floods, the brewery had moved some of the equipment upstairs.

“We are now having to look a bit further afield and see what else can be moved,” said Jeremy.

“We have moved pumps and motors wherever possible and we have quick release mechanisms which means they can be taken out at a moment’s notice.”

The team are all looking forward to welcoming visitors again.

“It’s great to see it back up and running once again and get back to normal. It’s the normality we have missed,” Jeremy added.
