A blind dog that went missing near Carlisle has been reunited with his owner, thanks to a huge community effort.

People from across the county and the Scottish borders have worked tirelessly to help owner Elizabeth McDonagh find her lost Patterdale Terrier.

Jerry, who is blind, went missing on Sunday afternoon, sparking a desperate appeal by Elizabeth to try and find him.

"People have come from Dumfries to help, Wigton, Whitehaven - I'm absolutely overwhelmed with everyone's kindness," Elizabeth told The Cumberland News.

"Everyone in the neighbourhood has been out looking.

"I have cried all week, I have been looking until 6 o'clock in the morning.

"The weather has been horrendous, but everyone has just got on with it."

She continued: "One man travelled from Penrith to try and use his drone in the search.

"I asked him how much he charged and he said nothing.

"He said he wanted to give something back to the community."

Jerry was eventually found on Tuesday evening by a local farmer.

Elizabeth and Jerry live near to the Penny Jones Animal Hospice in Hethersgill, which is where Elizabeth works.

Elizabeth has now spoken out to thank everybody who helped with the search for Jerry.

"I am overwhelmed with everybody's kindness and the effort they have put in to find Jerry," she said.

"I just want to thank everybody."
