Pop stars from the past blasted out their hits at a new festival in Workington.

Atomic Kitten, 5ive, A1 and Kelly Llorenna topped the bill at Townfest at Derwent Park.

Crowds arrived early afternoon to hear live entertainment from Holborn Hilbilles, Dicky Dippinson and Amy Pearce.

And if the crowd seemed quite reserved initially, that all ended when Leeds outfit Late Night Legacy took to the stage.

Abi Moultrie, 24, of Winifred Street, Workington, said: “It’s a great vibe here with fab stalls. Our whole group is enjoying every act. I can’t complain with the choice of acts for £35.

Townfest attracted fans from far and wide. A1 said some fans had travelled from as far away as Norway.

Sam Rawlins, 22, travelled from Dudley in the West Midlands and was over the moon when he saw the line-up.

He addedd: “I was invited to Cumbria by my best friend who I met at university. We’re huge music fans and this event has sent my nostalgia levels sky high.”

Throughout the day, the crowds picked up in numbers and this was especially noticeable when popular cover outfit Collision took to the stage.

Well known for supporting boyband 5ive at their recent Whitehaven gig, Collision brought the party to Workington with their covers of classic songs from the likes of Blink 182, McFly and Busted.

Clubland legend Kelly Llorenna then sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Beth Todd, 23, of Cleator Moor, said Llorenna’s inclusion was her sole reason for coming to Townfest.

She added: “I’ve had a fantastic day but the fact that Kelly Llorenna is on stage in Cumbria is brilliant, I’ve waited so long to see her I’m glad an event like this could bring such a classic name to Workington.”

Encouraging the crowd to sing along, Kelly belted out the likes of Tell It To My Heart , This Time I Know It’s For Real and Heart of Gold .

After a long wait, crowds were then treated to an all-singing and all dancing rendition of A1’s greatest hits which received the loudest cheer of the day so far.

Atomic Kitten jumped on stage straight after A1 instead of the scheduled 5ive.

Welcomed with cheers for Kerry Katona, Atomic Kitten proved to be the biggest hit of the night playing hits such as Tide is High , Whole Again and Ladies Night . Chatting with the crowd and cracking jokes, they proved their wow factor, delivering a solid performance from start to finish.

Closing the event, boyband trio 5ive brought their A game, playing their greatest hits... and all on band member Sean Conlon’s birthday.

Still showcasing their trademark choreography, 5ive wowed the crowd with the likes of Slam Dunk The Funk , When the Lights Go Out and Everybody Get U p.

The event was a chance for Eighties, Nineties and Noughties (and younger) fans to see their favourite bands and artists live at a more intimate venue.
