A project which supports disadvantaged young people has been awarded a cash boost from BBC's Children in Need.

Pudsey and co. have handed over nearly £10,000 to Soundwave Cumbria so it can deliver a youth club to children and other young people who live in areas of deprivation.

Using music, a programme of IT based activities, and games, the youth club engages the young people with fun activities in a safe and secure environment while encouraging them to build positive relationships and develop new skills for the future.

David Roberts, director at Workington-based SoundWave Cumbria, said: "It’s great news to hear that we’ve been awarded with this funding from BBC Children in Need.

"With this we’ll be able to make a positive difference to some of the young people in the local area that could really benefit from our support."

The project was given £9,920 the charity and it is the latest boost Cumbria has received from the fund which has invested more than £2m in the county.

Speaking of the new grant, Isabel Farnell, BBC Children in Need's regional head of the north said: "At BBC Children in Need we fund projects that are making a tangible difference to young lives.

"We are delighted to be supporting projects like SoundWave Cumbria which is a great example of our small grants at work which are only possible thanks to our supporters."

Organisations who wish to apply for Children in Need funding are being invited to attend a free funding workshop, organised by Cumbria CVS, at the Cumbria LEP Conference and Business Centre in Penrith on Thursday (MAY 4).

Anyone interested in attending the event is asked to book their place between 10am and 3pm.
