Antiques expert Paul Laidlaw was in Lamplugh today to cast his eye over people's treasures.

Around 50 people packed into the village hall to have items valued by the BBC Antiques Road Trip and Bargain Hunt presenter.

And among many of the items, the Carlisle-based auctioneer found some of value.

Bob Marshall, from Lamplugh Village Hall, called it a brilliant afternoon.

"It was a bit of a shot in the dark," he said, "as it wasn't a ticketed event but we had a great turnout.

"Paul was fantastic. He's a very open chap and tells it as it is. He said he didn't want to stand and talk all afternoon, he wanted to have a conversation with people."

He added: "It was very positive and people were quite relaxed about it although there were one or two people a bit disappointed with the valuation!"

Paul firstly gave a talk on about his career before looking over people's items which were placed on a table at the front of the room, as well as having a question and answer session.

Although many of the items were of no, or little value, there were a few prize pieces including a church chalice worth around £3,000.

Other items of interest were two military swords.

People came from Lamplugh, Cockermouth and St Bees for the event.
