A west Cumbrian play area has been brightened up by colourful panels designed by art students.

The Jackson Street play area, in Seaton, has only recently been expanded and improved with new equipment aimed at older children.

And it has now been further enhanced by eye-catching panels designed by a group of art and design students from Lakes College at Lillyhall.

The panels were installed on the fence around the revamped play area this week ahead of the official opening tomorrow.

Parish council chairman Lily Harwood said: "What we suggested was something related to young people but we left the designs and colours up to them and I'm really impressed with what they've produced.

"The idea is to brighten it up a bit and give it a bit of personality which you need because other play areas don't have anything on the exterior to attract attention."

Rosie Nevins, 17, of Workington, worked on the panels and said she was pleased with what they came up with.

She said: "We wanted to go with bright colours so they would stand out to passers-by."

The designs feature children playing sports and using play area equipment like swings on colourful backgrounds.
