A pensioner had a bottle thrown at him and was verbally abused on a train between Brampton and Carlisle.

British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses after the elderly man reported being verbally abused by a group of men on the train. He later had a bottle thrown at him by the same group.

Officers said the incident happened sometime between 3.10pm and 4.45pm as the train made its way from Newcastle to Carlisle on November 5.

The group of six offenders, believed to have been in their twenties, were carrying luggage and some had beards.
