A DISTRAUGHT woman threw herself into her mother’s arms for support, a court has heard.

Wayne Hilton, 40, of Maryport, is on trial at Carlisle Crown Court accused of raping a young woman. He denies the charge.

It is alleged the rape happened in the bedroom of a friend’s house in Carlisle, at the end of an evening out in a city pub.

The jury had statements made to police by the woman’s mother and aunt read to them by prosecuting barrister Tim Evans.

She visited her aunt’s home first and said she had fallen asleep at the friend’s house and woken up to find Hilton on top of her and having sex with her.

“I asked did she give him permission, she said ‘no’,” the statement said.

Her aunt called the woman’s mum and then sent the woman to her mother’s house.

“I nearly fell to my knees,” the mother’s statement said.

“I was in total shock. I looked at her and she had tears in her eyes. I walked up to her and she threw herself into my arms.”

Hilton, of Ewanrigg Road, Maryport, was staying at a house in Carlisle at the time of the alleged incident.

The trial continues.
