A woman is in a stable condition after falling while walking and injuring her back.

It happened at Easedale Tarn, near Grasmere, on Thursday at about 3.30pm.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to assist the woman.

A spokesman said: "We were called to assist Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team in Easedale Tarn after a female had fell while walking and sustained a back injury.

"Our GNAAS paramedic and doctor team administered pain relief to the patient before airlifting her to a waiting land ambulance in Grasmere.

"She was taken by road to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle by the North West Ambulance Service."

The woman in her 60s had suffered a lower back injury.

Her injuries were described as non life-threatening.

Her condition on arrival at hospital was said to be stable.
