A bridge on the A66 which was damaged more than four years ago is due to be repaired.
The parapet on the westbound side of the bridge at Stoneybeck, near Broughton Cross in West Cumbria, was damaged in a crash on March 1, 2014.
Since then a concrete barrier and cones have been in place alongside the parapet to protect it from further damage.
Now Highways England has revealed it plans to replace both bridge parapets.
Workers visited the site this week to carry out assessments.
Temporary traffic lights were in place during the work.
A Highways England spokesman said design work was currently being done.
The replacement work is due to be done by the end of the current financial year.
