A teenager has admitted attempting to have sex with a dog.

It is one of 10 sex allegations which Joshua Clarke faced during a brief appearance at Carlisle Crown Court.

The 18-year-old admitted distributing sickening indecent images of children, and three counts of making or downloading indecent images of children on dates between February 2014 and February this year.

He also admitted possessing a grossly offensive extreme pornographic image involving a sex act between a person and a dog; two counts of inciting a child to engage in a sexual act; and two counts of causing a child - the youngest being just 13 - to watch a sexual act.

The final offence Clarke admitted yesterday was a charge of attempting to have sexual intercourse with an animal - namely a dog.

Defence lawyer Mark Shepherd said he would commission a forensic psychiatric assessment of the defendant, who lives at Macadam Way, Penrith.

That report is likely to be ready by mid to late September, said the lawyer.

Granting the defendant unconditional bail, Judge Barbara Forrester told Clarke he will now be subject to the provision of registering as a sex offender.

"The length of time you remain on it (the Sex Offenders' Register) will be determined by the sentence imposed, when you come back to court," she added.
