A FAMILY-run DIY shop in High Wycombe has powered its way to the top after winning Britain's Best Tool Retailer award.

Isaac Lord Limited, a retailer of power and hand tools to the DIY, woodworking and building industries, beat more than 1,000 other retailers including national organisation Focus DIY to win prestigious prize at a ceremony in Manchester in November Andrew Weiss, managing director, said: "This is a tremendous achievement for the company and staff. It's also a great reward for our recent investment into the showroom.

"We now have a shop that is better than any store locally and a match for the larger national outlets."

The company has two locations in the town a 20,000 sq-ft warehouse in Suffield Road and a show room/retail shop in Desborough Road, which stocks thousands different products.

Displays of Victorian posters and products often seen in the windows of the showroom are a reminder to customers of the shop's heritage it was founded in 1892 and has grown synonymous with the furniture town of High Wycombe.

Andrew explained the key to the success of the family business for which Alan Lord is the currently the chairman is always putting the customer first.

He said: "It's down to customer service having the right products, competitive prices and treating the customer as number one."
