THE vibrant colours of the landscape, rural living and the plants and flowers of the country all come to life at an exhibition of work by South African artists this weekend.

The show is the brainchild of Rebecca van der Merwe, who last year brought over the work of South African artist Portchie to Beaconsfield. That inspired Rebecca and her husband Pieter, South Africans themselves now living in south Bucks, to form Cape Art to promote work of other artists still in the country or who have moved to the UK.

Visitors to the exhibition at the Curzon Centre, Beaconsfield, will also see the launch of a series of limited edition canvas prints entitled Seasons Growth through Change produced by the South African artist Nieldr Laubscher. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Stellenbosch and followed a full-time lecturing and teaching career and fulfilling private commissions before relocating to the UK in 2001. His work, based on the seasons, aims to focus on mankind and its interaction with nature.

The first two seasons Summer 2004: Tranquillity celebrating summer, a time for relaxation and inner reflection and Autumn 2004: Abundance, a time of harvest and nature's way of rewarding man for his care and dedication to the earth, each comprising 12 limited edition canvas prints will be included in the exhibition.

Nieldr hopes over a period of three years to publish the paintings, with inspirational messages from world leaders, in book form with the proceeds going to help artists and young entrepreneurs in South Africa.

The work of Carine G by contrast is inspired by the day-to-day living in the rural townships, and are almost primitive in style as are the landscapes, flowers and portraits in acrylic and pastel by Kobie Dams- she held her first exhibition in Paris, before moving back to South Africa and settling in the UK in 1998 - and Portchie, who now has two galleries in South Africa, are among the other exhibitors. A selection of jewellery will also be on sale.

l Cape Art will be at the Curzon Centre, Maxwell Road, Beaconsfield, tomorrow and Sunday from 11am- 6pm and at Dair House School, Beaconsfield Road, Farnham Royal on December 11 and 12.
