Emergency services were called to Brampton after a lorry caught fire.
It happened on the A69 at about midday.
Police said no one was injured and one lane of the carriageway was open.
Firefighters were quickly on scene and the fire was extinguishes at about 12.10pm.
The road fully reopened to traffic at 3.15pm.
